Q--You mention adding a can of fuel injector cleaner to your tank occasionally. A mechanic told me that on any vehicle over a couple of years old, adding an injector cleaner has in his experience dislodges gunk, dirt and whatever from the fuel tank, fuel lines etc. and has actually causes severe clogging in the injectors.  He says, "stay away from those cleaners added to fuel tanks". Any truth in this?

A--Adding the occasional dose of fuel injection cleaner or fuel system cleaner will do no harm to your injectors or fuel system. Most of the chemicals in these products are already in many of the fuel blends you buy, just in lesser quantities. But, like anything else, moderation is the key to using additives.
